Fair rules for Derby

Bob Laxton MP welcomes new strong communities measures announced by Gordon Brown

Bob Laxton MP said:

"You tell me all the time when in my surgeries or on the doorstep that people who work hard and play by the rules should be rewarded.  And those that don't must face the consequences of their actions.  I welcome the measures announced by Gordon Brown.

"People in Derby want to know that there are clear rules in place which are seen to be fair, enforced and making a difference. Fair rules are about making sure that if you can’t or won’t contribute to this society, you don't get rewarded.  Fair rules mean that if you can work, you must work.

"We are all facing tough times, and the Government is providing real help. But we all have a role to play to help Derby come through the economic downturn stronger than before. That means everyone must pull together, look out for their neighbours, and play fair. No-one should be allowed to play the system or break the rules: no excuses, no exceptions."
