Queen's Speech 2008

A fairer future for Derby

Labour's Legislative Programme will build on the Pre-Budget Report announced last week and will help equip people to meet the economic challenges facing our country as a result of global downturn.

Bob Laxton MP said:

"This Queen's Speech sets out measures that will enable Britain to build a fairer future for all.  Our test is to meet the needs of hard working people fairly, while making the right long term decisions to prepare and equip our country for the future.

"This Government will go on taking urgent action now to give people real help to get through these difficult times.   People in Derby will be reassured by the Prime Minister announcement of the Homeowners Mortgage Support Scheme.  This is real action now for hard-working people worried about losing their homes because of a redundancy or a significant loss of employment income as a result of the downturn."
